EMDR- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Offered to children, adolescents, and adults of all ages, also can be included in Couple’s therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps people heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences and it can make improvements very quickly. Think of it like a physical wound, once the object that has made the wound is removed, the healing process can begin. EMDR can help clients move through difficult events which may have taken much longer in individual therapy to fully process. Click here to learn more

Individuals (Adult or Pre-Teen/Teen can be done in person or tele-therapy (online video therapy sessions)

“I am not capable. I’m not worthy. I must be perfect and not make a mistake. I’m not good enough. Nobody loves me. I feel lost and alone. I am anxious/depressed all the time. I have no idea who I am.”

Our main goal with all clients is to help them pursue joy instead of happiness. Joy in life occurs when one leads from their true self that contains the 8 "C"s: calm, clarity, curiosity, compassion, confidence, courage, creativity, and connectedness. This allows one to wrap their arms around the entirety of who they are.  Our therapists offer a variety of modalities to help any individual such as CBT, IFS, Narrative, Collaborative Therapy, etc.

Couples (in person or Tele-therapy (online video therapy sessions)

“Underneath all the distress partners are asking each other: Can I count on you, depend on you? Are you there for me? Will you respond to me when I need , when I call? Do I matter to you? Am I valued and accepted by you? Do you need me, rely on me? ~Dr. Sue Johnson

No matter the conflict that your marriage is facing, affair, financial difficulty, problems sexually, that conflict is never the reason why the marriage is failing. We strive to show our couples that they are no longer dancing beautifully because of a negative cycle that promotes decreased: affection, emotional responsiveness, and sense of security. “The more I ___, the more you ____ and then the more I ______, and round and round we go.” Dr. Sue Johnson

Our marriage and family therapists have been trained in modalities that are proven to be effective with couples such as: Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman, and Internal Family Systems. We can help couples that present with only communication issues all the way to couple’s that are experiencing trauma wounds from affairs.

Premarital (In person or tele-therapy (online video therapy sessions)

"We want to start our marriage on the right page, avoid common pitfalls, and discuss ways to resolve conflict and stay connected over time.”

Our goal with premarital couples is to help prepare them for patterns of interaction that could lead to a negative dance of disconnection over time. We teach our couples what each other’s raw spots are and how to communicate vulnerabilities in an argument in a way that pulls the partner closer instead of away.

Family (in person or tele-therapy (online video therapy sessions)

"We've lost the ability to work together as a team, it seems impossible to work with my ex as a co-parent, I struggle to connect with my child in meaningful ways because he/she seems to hate me or life.  We are all exhausted, overwhelmed, and completely out of ideas!"

May your family be a family of divorce or non-divorce, children see both parents as their emotional safe haven and the people they can always count on to always respond.  We strive to unfold reasons for rejection, abandonment, hurt, and detachment that each family member is experiencing, in order to show family members that each frightened negative protest for connection is a plea for emotional reengagement.

Play Therapy (ages 5-10)

Young children lack verbal communication skills to converse about thoughts, feelings, and distressing events in their lives. Therefore, they use play as their natural way to communicate and resolve concerns. Play therapy utilizes specially selected toys to allow a child to communicate with the therapist inner thoughts, feelings, concerns, and experiences in a comfortable, age appropriate way. By entering into this world with the child, the therapist is able to offer insight and guidance to children and families to help them work to overcome difficulties. EMDR therapy can also be paired with play therapy to help children overcome trauma and distressing events in their lives.

Pre-Teen/Teen Therapy

Pre-teen and teenage years can be challenging and confusing. Sometimes children need additional help in sorting through this confusing and difficult time. The needs and developmental level of each individual child is considered in counseling for this age group and a variety of verbal and non verbal interventions may be utilized to help pre-teens and teens explore and grow in a relaxed, comfortable setting.

Parenting/Filial Therapy

Parenting is one of the most difficult yet rewarding journeys any of us will encounter in our lives. Whether you need help navigating co-parenting relationships, figuring out how to effectively provide discipline and limits, or building stronger bonds with your child, we can help.

Options available include working with one or both parents along with step parents and other caregivers to navigate the parenting relationship or working with child(ren) and parent(s) together in a filial therapy setting in which the therapist provides the role of teaching basic play therapy skills to parent(s) to incorporate at home with children to promote increased bonding, safety and security, and confidence in relationships.
